In the summer of 2020, UW-Madison student Kylie Thomasen created Badgers Branch Out for a final project for a social media class. As someone studying Life Sciences Communication and Environmental Studies, she had a passion for communicating about nature. As she previously used Instagram to post her nature photography, her final project began with the idea of how she could grow her personal Instagram. Kylie knew that she wanted her audience to be UW-Madison students, and after brainstorming and careful planning, Badgers Branch Out began. It was the perfect way for her to combine her love for Madison, nature photography, and communications. By posting recommendations of green spaces around Madison for UW-Madison students to explore, Badgers Branch Out’s purpose is to help them connect with the outdoors on and around campus.
